Scholarship Overview
The Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) is an official financial aid program established by the Beijing Municipal Government. It is designed to reward and support high-achieving international students who intend to pursue or are currently undertaking their studies in Beijing’s higher education institutions.
Scholarship Benefits & Coverage
The Beijing Government Scholarship offers two tiers of tuition subsidies for eligible students:
First-Class BGS Award Recipients are only required to pay an annual tuition fee of ¥5,000.

Second-Class BGS Award Awardees can enjoy a 50% tuition fee reduction with the annual tuition fees set as follows:
- Bachelor’s Program: ¥13,000 per year
- Master’s Program: ¥15,000 per year
- Doctoral Program: ¥18,000 per year
Eligible Academic Programs
This scholarship is applicable to all academic programs available at China University of Petroleum (Beijing).
Application Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must satisfy the following requirements to apply for the Beijing Government Scholarship:
- Be a non-Chinese national, in good physical and mental health, and hold a clean criminal record with no illegal history.
- Fulfill the general admission standards of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and maintain a minimum academic GPA of 3.0 out of 5.0.
- For applicants enrolling in Chinese-taught programs: Possess qualified Chinese language proficiency and provide valid supporting certification. For applicants applying for English-taught programs whose mother tongue is not English: Achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 or above, or a TOEFL score of 80 or higher. Undergraduate and postgraduate learners with no less than two years of full-time English-medium academic study may submit official school study certificates in lieu of language test scores. International students from English-speaking countries or regions where English serves as an official language are highly welcome to apply for English-taught programs.

Applicants shall prepare and submit the complete documents listed below:
- Scanned copy of valid passport (personal information page)
- Notarized copies of highest academic degree certificates and official academic transcripts (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
- Non-criminal record certificate
- Official physical health examination certificate
- Personal study proposal
- Updated curriculum vitae (CV)
- Two academic recommendation letters
- Supervisor’s official acceptance letter
